This may be the case when you have a report that requires multiselect parameters, as the Purchase Orders report that we create in chapter 10 demonstrates. For example, you could have a report that takes an Employee parameter. A client front end may allow users to select a single employee or multiple employees from an Employee list. At first attempt, you may opt to set up parameter available values in the Report Designer, so the client application could retrieve them from the Report Server to prepopulate the parameter list with the lookup values. All will work well until you try to pass multiple parameter values to the Report Server. When validating the report parameters, the Report Server will choke and reject the report request because it won t find a match against the employee column. This would have been possible if there had been a way to turn off the available values validation.
